Raised in a typical, church-going family, there were no dreams, visions, or plans to head for ministry. No, sir. Even Bible college in Hawaii was a temporary plan. Instead, God reshaped my thinking during those years, and after graduation from Western Seminary, we headed for the mission field, specifically Rome, Italy.
Forced to return home because of health, I pastored 12 years at the end of the Columbia River gorge in The Dalles, Oregon. We raised our kids. Great hunting, great fishing, great experience. Seven plus years followed at First Baptist Church in Salem, Oregon. Again, the Lord blessed.
In 2007, Selma and I moved our earthly belongings (including my motorcycle) to the land of cactus, where we’ve grown to love the sunshine, the desert, and the people of Palmcroft.
The challenges and opportunities that lay ahead of us are intriguing, to be sure. How the Lord may continue to develop us and use us to touch our community is certainly an exciting prospect. It’s a great time to be a pastor and a great time to be part of this church family.
“What the church needs today is not more or better machinery, not new organizations or more novel methods. She needs men whom the Holy Spirit can use-men of prayer, men mighty in prayer. The Holy Spirit does not flow through methods but through men…He does not anoint plans but men of prayer,” (E.M. Bounds).
